Twitcher is designed to identify birds privately on your iPhone and save sightings in a local field journal.

Camera or photo access

Open the iPhone Settings app, select Twitcher, and verify that the permission you want to use is enabled. Twitcher can identify a bird only after you provide a photograph.

Offline use

Core identification and journal features are intended to work offline. Privacy and support links require an internet connection because they open this website.

Identification results

Identification results are estimates and can be wrong, especially with distant birds, motion blur, poor lighting, partial views, or visually similar species. Use “Not Sure” and correction tools when the evidence is insufficient.

Journal information

Journal photographs and entries are stored locally. Removing an observation from the Journal removes that saved observation from Twitcher. Removing the app removes its app-local information, subject to backups controlled through Apple services.

Safety and professional use

Do not rely on Twitcher as the sole source for safety-critical, scientific, legal, regulatory, conservation-enforcement, or professional decisions.
